Philadelphia Presbyterian Church
Free Church of Scotland (Continuing)
“I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.” Psalm 122:1
We invite you to join us as we gather to worship the Lord in Spirit and in Truth.
Welcome
We are a Preaching Station of the U.S. Presbytery of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing).
What Is a Preaching Station?
A preaching station is a recognized gathering for regular public worship that has not yet attained the status of an established congregation. It remains under the oversight of the Presbytery, which appoints a Session and Moderator to provide pastoral care, exercise church discipline, and ensure the regular preaching of the gospel and administration of the sacraments.
Who We Are
We are a confessional Presbyterian church that holds to historic Reformed theology as summarized in the Westminster Standards.
Our desire is to glorify God through faithful preaching, reverent worship, evangelism, and the discipleship of God's people.
If you are new to the Christian faith, seeking to hear God’s Word faithfully preached, desiring to worship God through His appointed ordinances, looking for a church home, or simply visiting the area, we warmly invite you to join us for worship.
Pastoral Oversight
The congregation is under the oversight of the U.S. Presbytery and the pastoral care of Rev. Romesh "Rom" Prakashpalan, minister at Zion Presbyterian Church, Fredericksburg,Va, as Interim Moderator, together with the following elders, until local church officers are elected:
- Rev. Gavin Beers, minister at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Burlington, NC
- Mr. John Uselding, ruling elder at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Burlington, NC
- Mr. Logan Strawn, ruling elder at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, Burlington, NC
What We Believe
We hold as the confession of our faith the original 1647 version of the Westminster Confession of Faith, along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms as our doctrinal standards, believing them to be faithful summaries of the doctrines taught in Holy Scripture. The accompanying articles give expression to the pattern of biblical interpretation to which we adhere.
Our Worship
“WHAT THING SOEVER I COMMAND YOU, OBSERVE TO DO IT: THOU SHALT NOT ADD THERETO, NOR DIMINISH FROM IT."
We believe that Holy Scripture alone determines how God is to be worshiped. Accordingly, the reading and preaching of God’s Word are central to our public worship.
We offer praise by singing the inspired Psalms of Scripture alone, believing them to be the hymnbook God has appointed for His Church. In keeping with the New Testament practice of worshiping from the heart, we sing without the accompaniment of musical instruments.
